Do You Know Where Your Website Is?

One of the most frustrating things about having a website is discovering that it’s been offline for a while.  Many things can cause a website to go offline, from software bugs to configuration errors to malicious attacks to hardware failure.  The sooner you know your website is offline the sooner you can take action to get it back on again.  Whether you run your own servers or use a web hosting service, Capaho Server Monitor can keep an eye on your website for you and alert you if it goes down.  If you have more than one domain, you can create a domain list and it can check all of them.

Capaho Server Monitor sends an http get request to your domain and measures the amount of time it takes to receive the response header.  This is a more reliable method to monitor your website than a ping or a traceroute because those will answer if the server hardware is running even if the web server daemon has stopped, preventing it from being accessed from the web.  If Capaho Server Monitor does not receive the response header within the user specified timeout period, the tray icon (Windows) or the dock icon (Mac) turns red and a warning window opens on your desktop.

Capaho Server Monitor can also be set to send an email alert message to a user specified email address.  If Capaho Server Monitor receives the response header within the user specified threshold, it displays a green icon.  If the response time exceeds the specified threshold a yellow icon is displayed to let you know that the response is slow.  If logging is enabled, Capaho Server Monitor keeps a record of the website status and response time each time it checks it at the user specified interval.

Capaho Server Monitor adds some peace of mind to managing your website by watching it for you and letting you know if it’s not responding.
